JOB CALL: GIRAF 22 SIGNAL FILM
The Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS) seeks an emerging animator to join their artistic and marketing team to create a signal film for their 2026 festival of independent animation, GIRAF.
GIRAF 22 Signal Film:
The GIRAF signal film helps to define the identity of this year's GIRAF festival. The signal film will screen at festival events and online as the "calling card" of the festival, the core piece of promotional material for GIRAF as a whole.
The activities will take place over the summer and finish by August 10, 2026. Deadline to apply is Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:59PM MST.

Who can apply?
The ideal candidate is an emerging or early-career animator who has completed or is undertaking post-secondary studies In animation, visual arts, design or similar, or has comparable experience or training, with proficiency with animation and design tools such as ToonBoom, Procreate, Adobe Creative Suite, Dragon Frame, etc. The animator will bring their own style and artistic approach to the film, with the opportunity to grow their skills in their preferred animation medium.
Funding for this job is provided by the Government of Canada's Summer Jobs Program. As a condition of this program, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred, between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment.
Applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio or samples of work along with their CV. This role requires high levels of creativity, motivation and dedication and the ability to both collaborate artistically with the QAS team, and work independently in the studio. Candidates from communities historically underrepresented In animation (women, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+) are strongly encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Payment:
$25/hour at 30/hours a week for the duration of the contract

Rate of Pay: $25/hour
To be eligible, you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*The you must be 15 years of age or older at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
